Autumn in middle England.

In which it starts to feel like autumn, although it doesn’t look particularly golden

I’m not sure that we’re going to have a red and gold autumn this year. I may be wrong, but it’s already late into October and there are precious few signs. In the last couple of weeks I’ve been up to the Ridgeway at Ashridge and Ivinghoe Beacon and across to Stowe Gardens. At none of these were there much more than a smattering of golden leaves.

in the lane where I walk the Delinquent Dog most mornings.

As you can see from all the photos, there are still leaves everywhere, despite the heavy winds and rains.

In the woods next to the lane – spot the Delinquent Dog.

Stowe highlights autumn 2021

I love this little stretch away by the Chinese House – search it out if you can.

Beautiful, but not exactly clothed in autumn glory.

By the way, Stowe was being dressed for Halloween while we were there and it looked absolutely marvelous. I know it’s getting a bit late in the day, but pop in if you’re nearby.

Despite the lack of rich colours, I still love this time of year. The weather is providing us with a lot of entertainment. Wrapping up warmly for chilly mornings, then stripping off the layers come lunchtime, only to need them again by dinnertime. Perfect autumn weather.
